NEW NORTHERN QUARTER PLANS SUBMITTED

Telford Shopping Centre has unveiled exciting plans for the next phase of development in the town centre, with the creation of a new Northern Quarter.

Proposals have been submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council to redevelop the former ASDA store to create up to seven large, modern stores – a total of over 70,000 sq ft.

New Southern Quarter Scheme Approved

Plans for the first phase of the redevelopment of Telford Shopping Centre have been given the green light by Telford & Wrekin Council.

To be known as The Southern Quarter, the project will see five or six restaurants and cafés totalling 26,500 sq ft built on the site of the former FOCUS store, nicknamed the ‘Green Shed’, which has already been demolished in anticipation.   Work on the Southern Quarter could start as early as Spring 2015.

Plans for the first phase of redevelopment of Telford Shopping Centre have been subnmitted to Telford & Wrekin Council.

The proposals for the Southern Quarter development comprise new restaurants and cafés, housed in a stylish contemporary new building to replace the unattractive 'Green Shed', which is currently being demolished.

FORMER FOCUS STORE BUILDING TO BE DEMOLISHED TO MAKE WAY FOR FIRST PHASE OF TELFORD SHOPPING CENTRE REDEVELOPMENT

Work on the demolition of the little-loved “green shed” in Telford town centre started today (Monday 7 July 2014).    The £160,000 contract is a precursor to the redevelopment of the site as the Southern Quarter, the first phase of the  Telford Shopping Centre redevelopment masterplan.

Plans for the demolition of the little-loved “Green Shed” in Telford town centre were revealed in April 2014, when a “notification of the demolition of a building” application was submitted to Telford & Wrekin Council. 

The removal of the building, which previously traded as FOCUS, is a necessary precursor to the development of the site as the Southern Quarter, one of the first phases of the major redevelopment plan to be brought forward. 

Green light for £200m Telford Town Centre masterplan

A £200m, five-year strategy to regenerate Telford Shopping Centre was given planning consent in October 2013.

The masterplan envisages the redevelopment of four key areas of the Town Centre.The Northern Quarter, Central Square, the Southern Quarter (the site of the green shed) and the Bus Station area are all earmarked for regeneration.
